McKinley High School students were visited by Retired Judge Freddie Pitcher and Alumni Association officers. Each student in the social studies class received a copy of Judge Pitcher’s book, “Breaking Barriers, A View from the Bench”.
In his book, Judge Pitcher describes how he made history in Baton Rouge by becoming the first African American to be elected to judgeships at three different levels of the court system. Judge Pitcher also recounts his early years living in Valley Park, a segregated and semi-rural neighborhood of the city.
