Alumni Center Visit by U.S. Secretary of Education - Honorable Miguel Cardona and U.S. Representative - Troy Carter

On Thursday December 16, 2021, the U.S. Secretary of Education, the Honorable Miguel Cardona, visited the McKinley Alumni Center Building which contains the McKinley High School Museum, the Alumni Association Headquarters and the McKinley Alumni Community Center.  His Alumni Center stop was part of his visit to educational institutions in Baton Rouge.  Secretary Cardona, was accompanied by U.S. Representative Troy Carter.

While visiting the museum and center, Secretary Cardona expressed his amazement at the unbelievable contents, the well preserved memorabilia and the overwhelming artifacts contained in this historic facility.  Some artifacts are more than 100 years old. He provided positive comments on the structure’s age, size, scope, historical significance of the facility and the visual displays both inside the building and on the center’s grounds.  He indicated that this was an outstanding accomplishment for a group, especially a group of Alumni members and commended the Association for its outstanding efforts to procure, renovate, restore and operate a site such as this. He comments indicated that he would always consider the McKinley Alumni Association and Center as national models for other Alumni Associations to emulate nationwide.
