Who ever dreamed of the day a sitting president of the United States would be at our alma mater, McKinley High School? No one, that’s who.

But on Thursday there was President Barack Obama in the gymnasium at our beloved high school.

Not only was it a president, more importantly it was the nation’s first African-American president. This was a lifetime event for the students at McKinley High School, and the thousands of graduates of that great institution. Even those that did not get a chance to see him in person.

A big shout out goes to Principal Herman Brister for working overtime under incredible pressure to maintain the school as local and national media descended on McKinley.

We also praise the students at McKinley. They were impressive in putting on a great face the media and public visited their campus.

Oh, and let’s tip our hat to the staff at the McKinley High School Alumni Center for the tough position of being the location for distribution of the tickets to see President Obama. You handled it well.

And, you need to know that as of Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016, President Obama is an official lifetime member of the McKinley High School Alumni Association. Paid in full just by showing up at the best high school on planet Earth.
